What's happening?

It was two o'clock in the morning. James should have been asleep, but he had forced himself to stay awake. There was no way he was going to miss the final episode of Succession.  

The series is about a media boss, Logan Roy, and three of his children. Logan did not start life with lots of money, but now he is one of the richest men in the US.

Logan is a bully who treats his family very badly. But his children try to stay close to him because each hopes to take over his job.

The last episode reveals who gets to take over his job.

Succession has been compared to one of William ShakespeareAn English playwright and poet who is often called the greatest writer in the English language. 's plays, King Lear.

Shakespeare is known as one of the greatest writers in the English language. He lived from 1564 to 1616 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

King Lear is also about children competing to take over from their father. But the plots of the play and the TV series are very different.

Lear gives up his power to his children too early. They treat him badly and he goes mad.  

Yes! Shakespeare wrote about power, fights and family, so he would enjoy watching a TV show about the same things in the modern day.

No! Shakespeare wrote about bigger things, like good and evil. All of the main characters in Succession are bad, so he would not like it.
