A day in your life in 10 years time: you wake up, go for a walk in the sun. Come home, do some drawing. Spend the afternoon writing, then play some video games. And after this hard day's work, £100 has been put into your bank account.

That is the idea behind the "universal basic incomeMoney received on a regular basis from work. Music venues receive their income by selling tickets for shows." (UBI). Some experts think we should give every single person a regular payment, even if they do not have a job.

But why would we give people money for free? Many campaigners think UBI is needed because of modern technology.

They argue that computers, and especially AIA computer programme that has been designed to think. , are going to cause people to lose their jobs. That will lead to lots of suffering.

But if people have a UBI, campaigners say, losing your job will be a good thing. People will have more free time without facing the problems of povertyThe state of being very poor. .

Should there be a universal basic income?

Yes! A UBI will allow people to be more creative. They will not be worn out by hard jobs and working to pay for food. A UBI would make the world a better place.

No! Most people are not naturally creative. They would waste all their free time while others work hard to pay for it.
