‘Save nursery rhymes!’ pleads author

The cow jumped over the moon: The English nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle may date back to at least the 16th Century, if not far earlier to early medieval times, but most theories on its meaning have been discredited.

Are they a vital cultural treasure? Fewer and fewer children are being taught nursery rhymes. Now an expert is launching a campaign to encourage and preserve them.
