Hey, amazing parents and brilliant pupils! Are you ready to make an impact on your local area this summer break?
We’re inviting you to get involved in Planet Play – an initiative that invites 7-14-year-olds to get outside and design a playful, sustainable street in their community! This isn’t just any project; it’s a chance to help local people, support wildlife, and protect our planet!
Plus, getting involved couldn’t be easier:
Step 1: Download Our FREE Resources!
We have a treasure trove of FREE resources just waiting for you! Download the Planet Play assembly and the competition worksheet to start your adventure. These materials are packed with creative ideas and guidelines to help you get started.
Step 2: Get Inspired!
Did you miss our live event? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. You can still dive into the excitement by watching the replay of our LIVE inspiration workshop! This workshop is bursting with ideas and motivational stories that will spark your imagination.
But wait, there’s more! Tune into our Planet People Podcast – a build-along audio experience designed to guide and excite you as you brainstorm and design your playful street projects.
Step 3: Create your design!
Here are a few key pointers to consider when creating your design:
Firstly, it’s important to think about how to best utilise your chosen outdoor space. Remember, each design should aim to encourage play and get young people to embrace the outdoors. The space could also be environmentally friendly and attract local wildlife.
When thinking of your design, look around their street or local outdoor space, and notice how the area is set up for outdoor play and supporting wildlife. Think about how you could make this space safer for outdoor play, think about how this space would be used if there were no cars for example!
Next, decide how you want to change and improve this space. Remember, each design should be good for the planet and sustainability must be a top priority when considering the design. Another important thing to consider is what you will use to build this space, try to use sustainable materials in your design to minimise its environmental impact.
Design your solutions on paper first (make sure that you label your design to show us what it is and why you’ve designed it this way), then create a 3D model out of LEGO® bricks or anything else available like recycled materials, leftover craft supplies or nature bits collected from outside.
Step 4: Enter Our Competition!
Once you’ve poured all of your ideas into your design, it’s time to showcase your masterpiece!
Take a photo of your drawing and 3D design and (if they want to) write a short description of your building’s features (maximum 250 words). Now write a letter persuading the adults around you to set up a wild play street in their community to help local people, wildlife, and our planet!
Next ask a grown-up to upload your photo, letter, and (optional) written description via this link: *https://theday.awardsplatform.com (They will need to create a free account on the submission platform or log in if they’ve used it before) and include your name, age and school details.
Don’t forget to enter the Planet Play competition by 12 PM (BST) on September 27th. This is your chance to win amazing prizes for your school and earn recognition for your incredible efforts!
Let’s make this summer a time of learning, fun, and positive impact! Together, we can transform our local spaces into vibrant, playful havens for both people and wildlife.
