Landmark - A significant event, decision, or discovery that marks an important turning point.
UN - United Nations. An intergovernmental organisation based in New York that aims to maintain international peace and security.
Threshold - The point or level at which something begins to happen or change.
Pessimism - Always expecting the worst.
Per capita - Per person. The phrase came into use in the late 17th Century, but it is originally a Latin phrase meaning “by heads”.
Wrangling - A long and angry argument, or to control something difficult to control, such as cattle.
Rainforest - A tall, dense forest that receives a lot of rain.
Indigenous - Ethnic groups who are the original or earliest-known inhabitants of an area or country: for example, Native Americans in the USA.
Renewable energy - Energy sources, such as wind and solar power, that do not use up fossil fuels and pollute the environment.
