Westminster - An area of London known for its government buildings and parliament.
MP - Member of Parliament. There are 650 MPs representing people in different areas of the UK.
Reform UK - Officially Reform UK, a political party set up in 2018 as the Brexit Party. Its most prominent figure is Nigel Farage.
By-election - An election held outside a general election to replace an MP who has resigned or otherwise left office.
Sleaze - The name given in British politics to scandals involving MPs’ behaviour. Sleaze is often to do with money, but sometimes to do with politicians’ private lives.
Peter Mandelson - A Labour politician who was a minister under prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. He has resigned from the Labour party over his links to Jeffrey Epstein.
House of Lords - In the UK, the upper chamber of the UK Parliament. It is made up of hereditary peers, the Lords Spiritual (bishops) and life peers.
Jeffrey Epstein - He was a financier arrested in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking. He was denied bail ahead of his trail and died while in jail. His death has been officially ruled a suicide by the New York City medical examiner, though a pathologist hired by Epstein's brother claims it may have been a murder.
Disinformation - False information intended to mislead, including propaganda, which all too often encourages the spread of misinformation, fake news spread by mistake. It is contrasted with misinformation, which may be spread accidentally.
