Tehran - The capital of Iran.
Israel - A country in the Middle East, and the only Jewish nation in the modern period. It is seen by Jews, Christians and Muslims as the Holy Land.
Acid rain - Rain caused by sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide combining with water molecules in the atmosphere. It can be harmful to plants and animals.
Ally - A person or group that cooperates with or supports another for a common purpose.
Taboo - Forbidden due to social rules of behaviour.

Supreme Leader - The Head of State and highest religious authority in Iran.
Inflation - An increase in the price of goods in an economy.
Stock markets - Also called a stock exchange, where investors buy and sell shares in a company, hoping to make money as the company grows. There are major stock exchanges in London, New York, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.
Lebanon - A small country on the eastern Mediterranean coast that has been in the grip of an economic crisis for over a year. It has a native population of just 4.7 million, but migrants and refugees have brought its total population up to almost 7 million.
Hezbollah - A militant organisation based in Lebanon, classified in the UK as a terrorist group. It has made direct attacks on Israel and is believed to have been responsible for assassinating Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.
UN - United Nations. An intergovernmental organisation based in New York that aims to maintain international peace and security.
Yair Lapid - Israel's current Leader of the Opposition and former prime minister. He is from the centrist Yesh Atid party.
Keir Starmer - The leader of the UK Labour Party since 2020 and British prime minister since July 2024.
Cyprus - An island country in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The northeastern part is occupied by Turkey, while the rest of the island is the Republic of Cyprus.
