-
How do I enter?
This year, you can enter the Global Young Journalist Awards by submitting an opinion article or video to Student Voices, a space for students from The Day member schools to share their opinions and tell stories that they care about. Email editorial@theday.co.uk by 31 May to submit your entry.
-
Can I take part?
If your school or college is a member of The Day or a BrainWaves research school, you can take part in GYJA and Student Voices. You can be any age under 19 and from anywhere in the world.
-
What are the categories?
We will be choosing winners from five categories:
- Climate
- Politics
- Sport
- Science & Technology
- Society & Culture
-
Are there any guidelines?
Submissions must either be written articles between 250 and 500 words long or videos between one to two minutes. They must be your own work and not published in any other publications (other than school publications). Your school or educational institution must be a member of The Day.
-
What can I write about?
You can write about anything that inspires you. Is there something you feel passionate about? Did you have a strong response to an article you read in The Day? Do you disagree with any of your friends, parents or teachers? Have you had an unusual experience? Is there a story you think the media is not telling? All of these things could make for a good article. Make sure you include your opinion! This is what Student Voices is all about.
-
How do I submit to GYJA?
Download the submission form below (make sure you choose the right one for your age!). Once you have filled it in, you can email it to us at editorial@theday.co.uk alongside a PDF or Google doc of your written article, or a link to your unlisted YouTube video.
-
Will my article definitely be published?
Only submissions that meet our editorial standards will be published — but if we don’t publish your submission, we will send you feedback on how to improve it. The best way to maximise your chances of publication is to read and watch our submission advice below. You should also make sure your chosen topic is as original as possible.
-
What if I've already submitted a piece to Student Voices?
Good news — you have already entered GYJA 2025! We can publish up to one piece per student per month, so you can always submit a new piece on a different topic.
-
Are there any prizes?
Yes! Each winner will receive a £100 prize and a certificate. We will also be making a winner’s video featuring the winning entries.
-
Can a whole class take part?
Yes, a whole class can submit articles to Student Voices and GYJA. If a whole class send in entries, we will normally send feedback via your teacher and select a small number of entries to publish. If we receive a large number of entries in one go, it may take up to a week to provide feedback!
