King's Speech - A speech by the British monarch outlining the UK government's plans for the year ahead.
Tory - A member of the Conservative party.
Palace of Westminster - Where the UK's House of Commons and House of Lords meet.
Gunpowder Plot - A failed attempt to assassinate King James I of England in November 1605.
MP - Member of Parliament. There are 650 MPs representing people in different areas of the UK.
House of Lords - In the UK, the upper chamber of the UK Parliament. It is made up of hereditary peers, the Lords Spiritual (bishops) and life peers.
House of Commons - The democratically elected house of the UK Parliament. It consists of 650 Members of Parliament.
Black Rod - In the UK, a House of Lords official who controls access to the House.
Labour party - The main left-wing political party in the UK.
Rewilding - Returning developed or farmed land to its natural state by reintroducing species that once lived there.
Orkney Islands - A group of Scottish islands. People live on 20 of the islands.
Trans-Siberian Railway - The longest railway line in the world, connecting Moscow in Russia's west to Vladivostok in the far east.
Commonwealth - Officially called the Commonwealth of Nations, it was set up in 1926. There are 54 members in all. It grew out of the British Empire and many members, although not all, were former British colonies.
