What do falling birth rates mean?

In many countries around the world, birth rates are falling. In South Korea, the average woman will have just 0.72 children in her lifetime. In Japan, that figure is not much higher — 1.20. In Britain, there were just 400 more births than deaths between mid-2022 and mid-2023. So what does this mean for the world? This video from BBC News explores the trend.
