Do you have a right to birdsong? A right to the flowers blooming in spring? A right to swim in an ocean free of plastic? Since 2015, groups of young plaintiffs have been suing their governments over climate policy, arguing that climate inaction violates our right to a healthy environment, food and water. After some notable victories in Columbian, German and US courts, some think that governments are close to being forced to acknowledge their legal obligation to safeguard the health and wellbeing of future generations against climate chaos.
