parliament - An assembly of representatives, usually of an entire nation, that makes laws.
General election - In the UK, when an election is held for all 650 members of the House of Commons. One must take place every five years.
House of Commons - The democratically elected house of the UK Parliament. It consists of 650 Members of Parliament.
Conservative - Holding traditional values, and in a political context, favouring policies such as private ownership.
Ambassador - Somebody who represents an organisation or country.
Welsh Assembly - Now officially called the Senedd (Welsh Parliament), this is the group of elected politicians who make laws and decisions specifically for Wales on things like schools, hospitals, and transport.
Cabinet - The senior ministers in a government, who attend regular direct meetings with the prime minister.
MP - Member of Parliament. There are 650 MPs representing people in different areas of the UK.
By-election - An election held outside a general election to replace an MP who has resigned or otherwise left office.
Chancellor - The Chancellor of the Exchequer is the minister responsible for the British government’s economic policy. The job is often regarded as second in power and important to that of the prime minister.
Pollsters - People or companies who conduct surveys and ask members of the public for their opinions – often to find out who people plan to vote for or how they feel about a particular leader.
