Gaza - The smaller of two Palestinian territories, home to two million people. It is located on the Mediterranean coast, bordered by Israel and Egypt.
UN - United Nations. An intergovernmental organisation based in New York that aims to maintain international peace and security.
Famine - A widespread scarcity of food.
General Assembly - The General Assembly is the main deliberative body of the UN. All the world’s states, and some non-state observers, are represented there.
Sovereignty - The authority of a state to govern itself, or sometimes another state.
Hamas - A militant Palestinian organisation, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007. It is listed as a terrorist organisation in the UK.
Diplomatic - Non-violent peacekeeping. Diplomatic means keeping good relations between the governments of different countries.
Right-wing - Sometimes referred to as 'conservative', this is a range of political beliefs that emphasise the value of tradition, individual freedom and responsibility, low taxes and a hands-off approach to government.
Untenable - Something that cannot be supported, maintained or defended from criticism.
