Genocide - The annihilation of a people, either through killing of its members, or through the suppression of its culture.
Apartheid - A system of legally-enshrined racial discrimination and oppression which existed in South Africa from 1948 until the 1990s. It denied non-white South Africans basic human rights.
Segregated - A racist policy separating White and Black people. It was used in the southern United States from 1877 to 1968.
BRICS - Short for the five largest emerging economies — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. However, the group has recently expanded and now includes countries that are not in the acronym, such as Egypt and the UAE.
