The Day is evolving — here's what's new!

Samantha Austen, Business Development Director at The Day

We have some exciting news to share! You spoke … we listened, and we’ve been busy behind the scenes at The Day HQ. We’ve spent months analysing and collecting feedback on how you use The Day. We are evolving, and it’s because of you.

Smarter Reading Levels!

From September 2025, we’re making improvements to ensure our news articles are clearer, more accessible, and easier to use in classrooms.  We’re streamlining our current five reading levels (RLs) into three more meaningful, purposeful levels.

  • RL2 our new accessible level, will be designed around our much-loved News Detectives format. It’s the perfect fit for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, ideal for transitional years & learners with additional needs.
  • RL3 will continue to deliver the same great text for Key Stage 3 – engaging, relevant, and age-appropriate.
  • RL4 and RL5 will merge into one unified level: RL4/5. This new combined level will cater to Key Stage 4 and 5 readers, offering the same challenge and depth, now in one convenient tier.

AND … they all now come with added value – Think brand-new comprehension questions, student voice prompts, and more – all ready to slot seamlessly into tutor time, PSHE, or subject lessons. It’s never been easier to bring current affairs into the classroom!

Coming Soon: All-New PSHE Lessons!

But, that’s not all! From September, we will also be launching a brand-new series of PSHE curriculum lessons, built around meaningful, real-world learning. These ready-to-use lessons will help students explore key personal and social topics through the lens of current affairs, and they’ll be included as an additional resource in our Secondary Plus package. We will be in contact in September if you wish to upgrade.

Saying Goodbye to a Few Features

And finally … so we can focus on what matters to you most, we’ll be phasing out some of our lesser-used features. From next Friday, July 11th, we will no longer be publishing NEW Article Translations, Short Epics and Photo of the Week. Posters will end in August. But don’t worry, an archive of 500+ Translations & Short epics from the past 2 years will still be available for you and your students.

Your voices are the change – thank you for your support!
