Glossary
Pillagers - People who help themselves to other people's possessions without permission.
Intangible - Essentially this describes things that are impossible to touch or grasp. Sometimes it's used as an adjective for things that can't be measured, or even understood.
Cryptocurrency - A digital currency in which transactions are verified and records maintained by a decentralised system using cryptography, rather than by a centralised authority.
North Korea - A country formed in 1945 when Japanese-occupied Korea was split between a Communist government in the north and a capitalist one in the south. Today it is extremely reclusive, and hostile to the West.
Unrecoverable Funds - Money that you will never get back.
CEO - The Chief Executive Officer is the highest ranking person in a company. They are responsible for making decisions about the company's future.
Frozen - When a budget is not raised in line with inflation, meaning that it is effectively cut year on year.
Dark Economy - Economic activities that are illegal or operate outside official government regulation and record-keeping.
heist - Theft or, more accurately, armed robbery
Febrile - Showing a great deal of excitement.
Bitcoin - A virtual currency that is "mined" using computers. Bitcoin was inspired by the idea that currencies' value should not be controlled by central banks. In truth, however, its value has fluctuated much more wildly than that of most centralised currencies.
Anonymous - Not associated with an identifiable person. It means "without a name", but has also been used as a name by a group of hackers who launch cyber attacks on people it considers evil.
El Salvador - A country in Central America. It suffered a terrible civil war from 1979 until 1992.
IMF - The international Monetary Fund. Its main function has been to manage debt difficulties in many countries, often enforcing strict financial discipline in exchange for loans to governments.
Think tank - A research organisation focusing on a certain topic, such as climate policy or education. They often produce information used by businesses, governments and big organisations.
