<h2 class=" eplus-wrapper">What's happening?</h2>

The man lived alone in the Amazon rainforestA tall, dense forest that receives a lot of rain. for many years. He was the only living member of his tribeA group of people, often several families, who share a language, culture and history. .  

Now, the man has died. He was around 60 years old. In the end, he lived all by himself for 26 years. 

Nobody knows what his name was. He built huts to live in and dug holes to hunt animals. He was once filmed cutting down a tree from far away.

Many people called him "the Man of the Hole", and he did not choose to live alone. But lots of people do choose to live by themselves. Not everyone thinks that being far away from others is a sad thing.

In fact, writer Sara Maitland says children should be sent to spend time alone in their rooms as a rewardSomething that is given to somebody in exchange for making or achieving something. for doing something good and not after being told off. 

Does being alone mean being lonely?

Yes! Humans are born into families and big groups of people. We need other people around us. 

No! It is good to spend time with your thoughts sometimes. And some people are very happy being by themselves.
