What's happening?

For years, people in WalesWales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It is part of the island of Great Britain.  have told an amazing story. There was once an old and rich kingdomA kingdom is a place that is ruled by a king or a queen.  in Wales called Cantre'r Gwaelod. It had 16 cities and was home to many people. But one day, it was lost under the sea. 

Most people thought that this story was not really true. But now geographers think the kingdom may be real after all. 

They have looked at a very old map of Britain, made in the 1300s or 1400s. It shows two islands that used to be near Wales. One of them could have been Cantre'r Gwaelod. 

Crumbling rocks or a giant wave could have made the people that once lived there leave.

Cantre'r Gwaelod is not the only lost city that has been found again. In JordanA country that exists today in the Middle East. , the old city of Petra was once home to a group called the Nabatean people. And in 1986, treasure was found buried in China. It belonged to the Sanxingdui people, who lived in the 1100s.
