Tomorrow, it will be 50 years since the Apollo 11 spacecraft launched from Cape Kennedy in Florida to begin its 240,000-mile journey to the Moon. On 20 July 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first people to walk on the Moon. But what happened along the journey?

- Each astronaut carried some personal items in a “Personal Preference Kit” to the Moon and back to Earth. Armstrong’s included some Apollo 11 medallions; gold jewellery (for his wife and mother), and a piece of wood from the Wright brothers’ first successful aeroplane.
