How to stop worrying

Many of us feel overwhelmed with worry sometimes — especially during exam season. In this clear and insightful video, philosopher Alain de Botton suggests that using reason can help us to manage our feelings of fear.

  1. Make a list of five, soothing activities you can do when you are feeling overwhelmed to help yourself feel calmer.
  2. Draw a picture of yourself. Around the figure, write down the things that can cause you to feel anxious during a typical day. How many of these fears are real or exaggerated? Does worrying about them do anything to help fix the problem?
