Nikolas is a young boy from FinlandA country of 5 million people on the Baltic Sea. t has been independent since 1917.. He lives in the forest with his father. His father's job is cutting down trees, but he is very poor.

The king offers a reward to anybody who can bring hope to the land. Nikolas's father goes off to a magical land looking for elves.

Nikolas has to stay behind. An evil aunt comes to look after him. She is mean to Nikolas. She even breaks his only toyNikolas's only toy is a doll carved from an old turnip..

So, Nikolas goes on an adventure to find his father. He learns about magic. He meets one of his reindeer, BlitzenThe German word for lightning., for the first time.

When Nikolas finally reaches the elf kingdom, he finds out about Christmas and what it means.

Not really. Santa lives in a world of magic. But he only comes once a year. Most of the time, we live in a world with no magic. Santa is not around enough to be a bridge to other worlds.

Of course he is! The magic Father Christmas brings can last for a long time. It is there whenever we play with toys we get in our stockings. He reminds us to celebrate the magic of everyday life all year long!
