Next month, the UK is hosting a climate meeting in Glasgow called Cop26. Leaders of countries will work together to find solutions to the climate crisis.
Cop26 is not the first meeting like this. In 2015, 196 countries signed the Paris Agreement. They promised to bring down CO2 emissionsThings that are released, such as gases, as part of a process. E.g. greenhouse gases. .
But not everyone kept their promise. In 2017, Donald Trump left the agreement. Carbon emissions went up instead of down.
Some people think Cop26 will be different. This summer has been filled with scary signs of climate change. There have been fires, floods and heatwaves.
Now could be our chance to stop it happening again.
Will Cop26 change the world?
Some say
No. This has happened before. Cop26 will be no different. People are too greedy. They will not want to make changes. Not all leaders will agree and it will fail.
Others think
Yes! We have to be positive. The leaders will work hard to fix things. This time, it is not just the future they are changing. They are saving their own lives too!
