What's happening?
Just off the coast of HawaiiSituated in the Pacific Ocean, it was made a US state in 1959 and is the only island state., a team of divers was filming tiger sharks having a meal. Suddenly, the sharks "split" - and the divers were joined by a fierce predator named Deep Blue.
She is thought to be the largest great white shark in the world. Amazingly, no one was hurt.
Find out more
Deep Blue weighs around 2.5 tonnes: the equivalent of five grizzly bears! She is six metres long.
Diver Ocean Ramsey said she was a "gentle giant" who wanted to use the team's boat as a "scratching post". Deep Blue stayed with the team "pretty much throughout the day".
Ramsey said that Deep Blue could be pregnant. Pregnant great white sharks are larger and safer to swim near.
Is this proof that fierce predators are not as scary as they seem?
Some say
Yes! Hollywood has it all wrong. Sharks only attack humans if they are curious, or if they mistake them for normal preyAnimals hunted and eaten by others. . We should not be afraid of them, we should respect them.
Others think
Great white sharks are still scary! They have 300 sharp triangular teeth, and they can smell prey two miles away. These divers got lucky, but something could still have gone wrong.
