Josh Gabbatiss was only nine years old when he started writing a book about animals. More than 20 years later, he has finally finished writing. Now aged 30, his final entry was about chimpanzeesGreat apes with large ears, mainly black coloration, and lighter skin on the face, native to the forests of west and central Africa. Chimpanzees show advanced behaviour such as the making and using of tools.. 

Humans love animals. Across the world, people spend their weekends visiting them in zoos and travel thousands of miles to see them in the wild. And most importantly, we keep them in our homes as pets.

There are 471 million pet dogs worldwide and 372 million pet cats. But people also keep hamsters, rabbits, snakes, fish, lizards and many other creatures. Some people even keep pet tigers.

Now, one writer and historian says it is time to stop. Troy Vettese says we keep pets to make ourselves happy, without thinking about how happy our pets are. 

Many people do not have the time or knowledge to care properly for their pets, he says. Pets often lead boring and lonely lives. Some are even hurt. 

Meanwhile, cats kill thousands of birds and small animals every year, harming wildlife. 

Yes! It is selfishWhen you only think about yourself. to own pets. They make us happy, but we do not know or really care if they are happy. 

No! Humans and animals have lived together for thousands of years. If you care for your pet well, everyone is happy.
