Secret of being a creative genius discovered
Do we all have the potential to go down in history? A team of scientists have come up with a theory about how brilliant works of art are created. But not everyone is convinced.
What's happening?
Vincent van Gogh sat in his room. He noticed the Morning Star glittering through the window.
He hurried to his studio and painted the scene from memory. When it was done, he thought it was a failure. Today, it is one of the most loved works of art in the world.

The Starry Night is one of van Gogh's most famous pieces. It is recognised all over the world.
Now, a group of five scientists think they have worked out why it is so popular.
They wrote an article in Nature magazine about great artists from history and modern day. They noticed periods they called hot streaks. They say that during a hot streak, an artist makes lots of artwork that goes on to be very successful.
They used AI to study 2,128 artists, 3,477 film directors and 20,040 scientists.
What they discovered was simple. A hot streak always starts with a small amount of time spent researching. After that, the person works very intensively.
If their theory is right, we could all end up becoming great artists or scientists. But not everyone thinks they are correct. They say using AI in this way could be bringing up misleading results.
Do we all have the potential to go down in history?
Some say
Yes! Everyone is born with some kind of talent. If you focus and work hard at it, you will have success. This experiment is proof!
Others think
Of course not. Geniuses are rare. That is why we are so impressed by them! It is true that practising something makes you better. Not everyone can be like Vincent van Gogh - however hard we work.
