Do we all have the potential to go down in history? A team of scientists have come up with a theory about how brilliant works of art are created. But not everyone is convinced.
What's happening?
Vincent van Gogh sat in his room. He saw the Morning Star glittering through the window.
He remembered the scene. Later, he painted it in his studio. When it was done, he thought it was bad. Today, it is one of the most loved works of art in the world.

The Starry Night is one of van Gogh's most famous pieces. It is known all over the world.
Now, a group of five scientists think they have worked out why it is so popular.
They wrote an article in Nature magazine about great artists from history and modern day. They noticed times they called hot streaks. This is when an artist makes lots of great art.
The team used AI to study 2,128 artists, 3,477 film directors and 20,040 scientists.
What they discovered was simple. A hot streak always starts with a small amount of time spent studying. After that, the person works very hard.

Others think
Of course not. Geniuses are rare. That is why we are so impressed by them! It is true that practising something makes you better. Not everyone can be like Vincent van Gogh - however hard we work.
