The suffragettes

Next Tuesday marks 100 years since 8.4 million people became the first British women to be granted the vote. The 1918 Representation of the People Act was the culmination of a bitter, heroic, and frequently violent campaign for equality. These 12 photographs were all taken by Christina Broom, dubbed “the UK's first female press photographer".
