Jacky Wright is a businesswoman. She has been named as number one on the 2022 Powerlist, a list of the most powerful Black people in the UK.
Life was not easy for Wright's parents. Her father came to Britain from JamaicaAn island country in the West Indies. The capital is Kingston. after fighting in World War TwoA global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945 and included all of the great powers. , and her mother moved to the UK a few years later. But they faced racism in the UK and chose to move to the USA.
In the US, Jacky Wright was inspired by many successful Black people, including businesswoman Ursula Burns. She thought about being a politician, but chose to go into technology instead. "I realised technology can help change things," she says.
Now, she is the head of technology at a big company called McKinsey. But there are not as many women in the tech world as men. Only one third of tech workers are women.
