'An enormous environmental monster-in-waiting'
Can we count on adults? Amy and Ella Meek, 18 and 16 from the UK, founded Kids Against Plastic in 2016 after finding out for the first time about the horrors of plastic pollution.
What's happening?
Amy and Ella never noticed plastic. It was in trees or by the street. But it was so common, they did not really see it.
Then, one day, they learned how plastic pollution could affect the environment. It changed everything.

The sisters were only 10 and 12. But they found out about the sea creatures being harmed by plastic. Turtles could choke on forks. Fish could get stuck in old bags.
They decided to act. They started picking up litter. They were busy, but they needed help. There was too much rubbish!
In 2016, they started a charity. Kids Against Plastic teaches people about the danger of plastic waste.
Ella says that the adults do not care enough. She is not alone. More than half of the children in the UK think adults are ignoring the climate crisis.
Around the world, 56% of children think the planet is doomed.
Can we count on adults?
Some say
No. Adults made this problem. Now they are ignoring it! Children are the ones who will live in the future. It is up to them to fix it.
Others think
Yes! We should not give up on them. They have not been good so far, but next week COP26 is a chance for them to show everyone how much they care.
